Mark Zagunis made the Opening Day roster and hell he was even in the Opening Day lineup against the Rangers. It was a cool story, but the Cubs quickly found no use for him and the right-handed hitter has basically just been a pinch-hitter for the last month and a half.

He’s 9-for-35, and has only started six games this season. In May, Zagunis has a total of seven at-bats. So, he’s going back down to Triple-A.

And although the team hasn’t announced a corresponding move, Zagunis being optioned to Iowa has been posted on MLB’s official transaction list.

So, who’s going to take his roster spot with the Cubs?

The first guess is Ian Happ, who lost his spot on the Cubs during spring training. He hasn’t really been lighting the world on fire in Triple-A, but he has had some flashes of maybe putting it back together.

In 46 games with Iowa this season, Happ is slashing .228/.347/.401, with six home runs, 28 walks and 52 strikeouts. Happ has struck out at least two times in seven of his 10 games.

So, maybe it’s not Ian Happ.

The Cubs bullpen has been laboring the past few weeks, so it’s possible they call up another pitcher. Or, a trade?

We’ll find out before Saturday’s game against the Reds, but one thing is certain, Mark Zagunis is going back to Iowa.

Oh wait, completely forgot about Ben Zobrist. Maybe he’s coming back?
