The Chicago Bears have had good luck with injuries most of the year but it looks like they may have taken a bit of a blow right before their biggest game in almost a decade. Less than 24 hours before they take on the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles, it was revealed that tight end Trey Burton had suffered a groin injury and was downgraded to questionable for the game.
#Bears injury update:
TE Trey Burton (groin) has been added to the team's injury report and is "questionable" for Sunday’s game vs. the Eagles.— Chicago Bears (@BearsPR) January 6, 2019
It’s unusual for this news to come out so late, which leads one to believe that it may have happened recently. How? The Bears won’t be divulging that information until game time. It isn’t the best timing. Burton figured to be a big part of their game plan given the weakness of the Eagles at linebacker. While there’s still a chance he plays, groin injuries aren’t known for being the most playable.
Odds are he may have to sit, putting the onus on Adam Shaheen to fill in for him. Shaheen has flashed since returning from an injury of his own but this would be the first time he’s the true focal point of the offense at tight end. Either way it takes one weapon out of the arsenal Mitch Trubisky will have at his disposal.
