The Chicago Bears haven’t been on a football field of any kind yet in the 2020 calendar year. Under normal circumstances, the team would’ve already participated in rookie and veteran minicamps followed by Organized Teams Activities (OTAs. The coronavirus pandemic has put the torch to all of that. Players have had to settle for virtual meetings with coaches along with making their own personal forays to practice fields with a few teammates here and there. Eddie Jackson for one has had enough.

The star Bears safety had the look and feel of a caged animal when he spoke to the media for the first time. He made his tagline for the 2020 season “REVENGE.” It’s obvious the fourth-year player is on a mission to show people he is one of the best to play the game. The problem is he can’t start on that mission until the Bears actually start practicing again. Something Matt Nagy and coaches aren’t allowed to do until training camp.

That doesn’t start until late next month. The wait is positively killing Jackson, who said he’d do just about anything to play organized football again.

Eddie Jackson should have a chance to deliver a career year

It’s not a surprise Jackson feels this way. His love of football has always been evident. There is a reason he is one of the primary leaders on that Bears defense. There’s also the knowledge of how good he could be this season. GM Ryan Pace made a big statement when he added veteran pass rusher Robert Quinn to the front seven. He’ll join Khalil Mack and Akiem Hicks. This could give the Bears one of their best pass rushes seen in many years.

For a ballhawk like Jackson, this is like experiencing Christmas every Sunday. It’s almost a guarantee quarterbacks will fire up at least two or three ill-advised passes per game because of that rush. An ultimate opportunist like Jackson is likely dying to take advantage. He can already see the interceptions piling up in his mind.

So take all the precautions necessary to keep players safe. Just find a way to do it faster. This man has business to attend to.
