CHICAGO — After a sterling Major League debut against the New York Mets two nights ago, Chicago Cubs’ right hander Adbert Alzolay will make his first career start on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves at Wrigley Field.

Cubs’ manager Joe Maddon confirmed the news on Saturday morning ahead of Game 3 in their series against New York.

This is huge news for Alzolay and for Cubs’ fans in general. Alzolay was the Cubs’ top pitching prospect the last two years and lived up to the hype in a fantastic debut on Thursday. He pitched in relief of Tyler Chatwood from the fifth inning onwards. He didn’t give up a hit (or run) until Todd Frazier led off the ninth inning with a home run. As a result, he earned his first career win thanks to his performance.

Expectations are high for Alzolay; it’ll be interesting to see how he fares in his first start against a very good Braves’ team and lineup.

It’s still unclear what the Cubs’ plans are for him once Kyle Hendricks returns from the IL, but he has a chance to make planning much tougher with a good performance on Tuesday.

Congrats, Adbert! You’ve earned it. Looking forward to it.
