The Cubs have several relievers performing well in spring training and the latest injury setback might just open up a spot for one of them to get on the Opening Day roster. Free agent reliever Xaiver Cedeno has been dealing with a wrist issue and now he’s expected to miss 7-10 more days because of it.
With Opening Day quickly approaching, Cedeno isn’t expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

The Cubs signed Cedeno back in February, adding to their depth from the left side of the bullpen.

Adding more bullpen depth, the Cubs have signed lefty Xavier Cedeño, sources told @TheAthleticCHI and @Ken_Rosenthal. Cedeño put up a 2.43 ERA in 48 appearances with the White Sox and Brewers last year.

The 32-year-old veteran would have had a pretty good shot to claim a bullpen spot if he avoided injury during spring training, but unfortunately for him it appears as though he’ll begin the year on the newly named injured list.
With Cedeno’s injury, fellow lefty Brian Duensing is pretty safe to make the bullpen, plus he’s put up four scoreless innings in spring training so far too.
However, Allen Webster and Dakota Mekkes have been turning heads in Arizona and one of the two may just push the envelope when it comes to Joe Maddon figuring out who’s in and who’s out of the bullpen mix for the start of the regular season.
