The White Sox have been playing much better baseball as of late, as prior to yesterday’s loss against the San Diego Padres, they had won five in a row. This is encouraging to see, especially after how they started the season.
This better baseball has come from a lot of different players on the team, but rookies like Noah Schultz and Sam Antonacci have been driving forces behind some wins. This is fantastic, as it is nice to see players come up and make an impact right away.
So far, according to Baseball Reference, Sam Antonacci has .3 WAR in 17 games, which would put him on pace for around 3 WAR over 162 games. That’s pretty good as a rookie playing a brand new position. Noah Schultz already has .7 WAR according to Baseball Reference, which would put him on pace for 6.1 WAR pace over a full season of starts. To put that in comparison, Baseball Reference had Tarik Skubal with 6.5 WAR last season.
Now, the White Sox may be getting even more reinforcements soon, as one of their top prospects is one step closer to making his major league debut. According to James Fegan of Sox Machine, the White Sox are promoting Braden Montgomery to AAA.

White Sox say Braden Montgomery is going up to Triple-A Charlotte
— James Fegan (@JRFegan) May 3, 2026
This is a well deserved promotion for Montgomery, as he has been on a tear to start the season. In 27 games, Montgomery is hitting .313 with a .429 OBP and a .606 slugging percentage. He has added six home runs, 22 RBls, and two stolen bases. This is a great start and exactly what you want to see out of your outfielder of the future.
Montgomery is probably a month or so of good baseball away from getting called up, as I could see him making his way to Chicago around the all-star break. This would be similar to when Kyle Teel and Colson Montgomery were called up last year.
I have no doubt that Montgomery will continue to mash at the AAA level, as he is a professional hitter. Since making his professional debut, Montgomery has hit .278 with a .373 OBP over 148 games. He’s added 18 home runs, 90 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases. You couldn’t ask for a much better start for Montgomery.
Montgomery has legitimate 20/20 potential and has a cannon in the outfield. He could slot in as the right or center fielder of the future, finally locking down what the White Sox have been needing for quite a while.
