White Sox Rookie Makes History With Dominant MLB Debut

-

The White Sox took a tough loss yesterday in extra innings, as they had an opportunity to win the game in the 10th inning, but were not able to pull it off. However, the White Sox clearly took that personally, as they came out firing on all cylinders and absolutely dominated the Minnesota Twins today.

The White Sox scored 15 runs behind 18 hits, as every player who started the game recorded at least one hit. This is quite impressive, as I can’t remember the last time the White Sox scored 15 runs in a game. This was an offensive performance for the ages, as the White Sox constantly had guys on base and forced the Twins to use a position player to pitch the 8th inning.

However, that may not have been the most impressive part of the game, as David Sandlin made his first career start and was absolutely lights out.

It was reported a few days ago that the White Sox were calling up David Sandlin to make his major league debut. At the time, we were unsure what the corresponding move would be, but we later found out that Noah Schultz was placed on the injured list due to a knee injury. This opened the door for Sandlin to get his first major league start. Sandlin took full advantage of this opportunity, as he looked like an ace.

Over six innings, Sandlin gave up just one hit, striking out four batters without issuing a walk. That may be the most impressive part of his outing, as young pitchers typically battle control issues early in their career, especially in their first start.

Sandlin got off to a shaky start, as he gave up a home run to Byron Buxton on his second career pitch. But, after that, he retired the next 18 batters in order. That’s pretty impressive for any pitcher, let alone for someone making their first career start.

Sandlin was also extremely efficient, as he only threw 61 pitches over his six innings. If he wasn’t working his way back from an early-season injury, he could’ve easily thrown a complete game.

Sandlin featured an impressive fastball, as he sat around 97 mph for most of the night. He also showed off his off-speed arsenal, as he threw some absolutely disgusting breaking balls.

This was quite the first impression for Sandlin, as he has definitely earned himself at least a few more starts. While it’s still early, taking on Jordan Hicks’ contract to acquire Sandlin this off-season looks like a genius move by Chris Getz.
