White Sox Report Card: How Edgar Quero Graded Out In 2025

-

The White Sox improved by 19 wins from the 2024 to the 2025 season, marking significant improvement. Additionally, the White Sox played much better than a 60-102 team for most of the second half, as they had some important contributions from the rookies on the roster.

As we dissect the 2025 season, we will take a look at how each player performed, as well as their outlook for 2026 and beyond. The next player we will take a look at will be Edgar Quero.

Quero was acquired in the trade that sent Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez to the Los Angeles Angels at the 2023 trading deadline. This was a huge trade for the White Sox, as Giolito and Lopez only spent a few weeks with the Angels organization. After the trade, Quero was on and off the MLB Pipeline top-100 prospect list, before finding himself regarded as a consensus top-100 prospect at the beginning of the year.

Quero proved his prospect status, as he got off to a great start in Charlotte before his promotion to Chicago shortly after the season started. On April 17th, Quero made his major league debut.

Quero would end up playing in 111 games, hitting .268 with a very solid .333 OBP. He added five homeruns, 36 RBIs, and 17 doubles. This was a very solid debut season for Quero, as he was among the youngest catchers in the game, as he just turned 22 right before his debut.

It took Quero until July to hit his first MLB home run, but he was consistently able to drive the ball into the gaps, as showcased by his 17 doubles. Quero also showcased an elite eye, as Baseball Savant graded out his chase percentage in the 97th percentile, which put him among MLB’s elite. This is extremely impressive for a 22 year old catcher.

On top of his great season at the plate, Quero was one of the best catchers on back picks this season, as he picked off five baserunners this season, which placed him at the top of the league.

This was a very productive rookie season for Quero, as he accumulated 1.2 WAR according to Baseball Reference. The advanced statistics didn’t love his fielding behind the plate, but he has plenty of time to improve that, as that is one of the hardest areas of the game to nail down, especially as a young player.

I would grade out Quero as a B+ for the 2025 season, as he proved he belongs in the MLB. He can continue to improve his fielding and add more power to his game, but he guaranteed himself a spot in the everyday lineup in 2026 and should be a big part of the White Sox future moving forward.
