The White Sox are currently 7-22 to start the 2025 season, which is uninspiring. However, on the CHSN broadcast last night, they noted that the White Sox are 1-8 in one run games, something that, if improved on, would obviously add more wins to their record.
However, another way they could win more games would be if they scored runs more consistently. The White Sox have a few blowout games where they have scored 8+ runs, but besides that, they are only good for 2 or 3 runs a night, if that.
But for the White Sox, that is easier said than done, as the lineup as a whole hasn’t been performing well. Nevertheless, there is an easy fix to get one of the statistically worst hitters in the major leagues out of their lineup and replaced with someone who has more upside.
As it currently stands, Jacob Amaya is only hitting only .078 with -.9 WAR, which is among the worst in the entire league. A simple fix would be to let newly acquired infielder Gage Workman take his place at shortstop, as Workman showed flashes of potential in Spring Training.

Workman has only been on the team for a few days, but he has only one at-bat while Amaya continues to get consistent at-bats at shortstop. There is no reason to get Workman on your team if you aren’t going to let him get a chance to prove himself, especially considering the fact he is a Rule-5 pick.
In yesterday’s game, Amaya started at shortstop while Workman came to pinch hit and play shortstop towards the end of the game. That shouldn’t be the case, as if the White Sox are comfortable enough with him playing shortstop, Workman should be getting the everyday at-bats until he shows otherwise.
At this point, the White Sox could call up Brandon Drury to take Amaya’s spot and let him be the backup infielder/utility player, as he could build up some trade value at the deadline, as he has been a very productive major leaguer in his career. While Drury hasn’t had the best start to his season in Charlotte, he would provide more with the bat than Amaya has.
Amaya has been average in the field, but at this point it is time to try something else, as it clearly isn’t working for the White Sox, as they have just seven wins. The White Sox even DFA’d Nick Maton over Amaya, despite the fact that Maton was hitting .100 points better. Amaya could be an off the bench defensive replacement, but he hasn’t shown that he can hit major league pitching this year, so the White Sox should make a change. Plus, a trip to AAA may help Amaya get in a rhythm with the bat and could return with better results if there is an injury.
There is no guarantee that Workman or whoever replaces Amaya will be an all-star, but with Amaya’s start to the season, they need to shake it up to let the team know that if you aren’t performing, someone else will take your spot.
