The 2024 season for the Chicago White Sox was one of the worst in modern day baseball history. They were 41-121 and the worst team in the league by far. The bright spots were few and far between, as the team was very hard to watch for many White Sox fans.
However, down on the farm, the White Sox have some very intriguing players that can give fans a glimmer of hope for the future. We will be recapping the seasons of some of the best prospects in the White Sox system, starting from #30 and going in order to #1 as MLB Pipeline has them ranked. As you’ll see, there are some very intriguing prospects that can help bring the White Sox back to relevance.
Next on the list is Alexander Albertus, who the White Sox acquired in the three team trade that sent Michael Kopech to the Dodgers, and Erick Fedde as well as Tommy Pham to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Prior to the trade, Albertus, as a 19 year old, made his way to low-A in the Dodgers farm system after spending some time in Rookie Ball. At the rookie level, he hit .342 with a .479 OBP. He added two homeruns and walked 26 times compared to just 20 strikeouts. He also added five stolen bases. This great stat line earned him a promotion.
In 19 games at low-A, Albertus hit .229 with a .317 OBP. He hit one homer, had 16 RBIs, and struck out 15 times compared to 10 walks. While these numbers aren’t overly impressive, he hardly had a chance to get accustomed to the official minor leagues.
Unfortunately, Albertus did not get a chance to make his White Sox affiliated debut, as he had a season ending surgery right after the trade. White Sox fans will have to wait until 2025 to see Albertus debut, likely for the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers.
Albertus is an intriguing prospect, so he will be one to monitor as the 2025 minor league season gets underway.
