The White Sox have one of the better farm systems in the major leagues, as they have five to six consensus top-100 prospects across the major baseball media outlets.
However, the talent goes far beyond the top prospects in the system, as they have multiple players who sit outside of the top-100 that will be very good major league players. We take a look at one of those players, George Wolkow, as he has been an absolute tear in the month of May.
Wolkow was selected in the seventh round in the 2023 draft, the last draft in the Rick Hahn era. Wolkow was projected to be a first rounder in the 2024 draft, however, he was able to reclassify into the 2023 draft. This led to the White Sox giving him a significant overslot bonus to get him to sign and forgo his college commitment. This was a significant addition for many reasons, including the fact that he’s a hometown kid, as he went to Downers Grove North high school.
After a solid year in 2024, where he hit .257 with 13 HRs and 56 RBIs between the Arizona Complex League and Kannapolis, expectations were high in 2025.

However, Wolkow didn’t have a great season despite spending the entire season with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. In 116 games, he hit .223 with 13 home runs and 69 RBIs. However, he only had a .317 OBP and struck out 147 times. He did have 33 stolen bases however, as he showed off what could potentially be a 20/20 skill set.
Wolkow opened the season with the Winston-Salem Dash, one level above the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers. Wolkow got off to a bit of a rough start in April, as in 82 at-bats, he only hit .207 with four home runs and 13 RBIs. This wasn’t the best start, however, over the last month he’s been a new player.
In the month of May, he is hitting .280 with a .355 OBP, slugging .488. He’s added three home runs, 22 RBIs, and one stolen base. This is exactly what you want to see out of Wolkow, as he is still just 20 years old.

Wolkow has some of the best raw power in the minor leagues and is on pace to crush his home run total from last season. There is a chance that he will finish with 25 to 30 home runs and close to 100 RBIs. This would be a huge season for Wolkow, as he has one of the highest ceilings in the White Sox organization.
After a tough 2025 campaign and a rough start this year, it is good to see Wolkow get back on track, as he could be a very valuable asset in Chicago in the next few years.
