The bats have come alive for the White Sox this season, as they have had one of the better offenses in the major leagues over the past few weeks. The bats have been supported by some solid pitching performances as well, as Davis Martin is a Cy Young candidate to this point in the season.
However, the White Sox could use some more help at the end of the rotation and in the last few spots in the bullpen, as there are a few players that could be upgraded, especially if the White Sox want to be competitive.
However, the White Sox could be adding an interesting arm to their bullpen shortly, as according to the Cleveland Guardians, they have designated Peyton Pallette for assignment. Pallette was the Guardians’ Rule-5 pick from the White Sox organization in the offseason, and if he clears waivers, he will have to be offered back to the White Sox.
Pallette was a second round pick in the ’22 draft who was originally thought of as a first round pick. However, with him having Tommy John surgery before his last college season, the White Sox were able to draft him in the second round. To open his minor league career, Pallette started 22 games for the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers in 2023. That season, he went 0-4 with a 4.13 ERA. Over his 72 innings, he struck out 78 batters while walking 41.

In 2024, the White Sox had high hopes for Pallette, but he did not get off to a great start. He opened the season in Winston-Salem, but he got off to a very slow start. Over 12 starts, he had a 7+ ERA. But after a switch to the bullpen, he looked like a completely different pitcher. In 23.2 innings, Pallette gave up just two runs, starting a dominant stretch as a reliever. He was quickly promoted to Birmingham.
In 15 innings for the Barons, Pallette had a phenomenal 1.80 ERA. He struck out 16 batters and cut down the walks to just five. Hitters were having no luck against him, as they hit a measly .137 off of him. He then followed that up with a solid 2025 between Birmingham and Charlotte, where he had a 4.06 ERA, striking out 86 batters in just 64 innings. This lead to the Guardians taking him in the Rule-5 draft.
Pallette then made the Opening Day roster with the Guardians as a reliever. In total, he has thrown 20.2 innings of 5.23 ERA baseball. However, he has struck out 22 batters, showing off his strikeout stuff. While walks have been a bit of an issue, he could be an interesting addition to the White Sox ‘pen if he clears waivers.
Peyton Pallette was one of my favourite arms in the Rule 5 Draft, and unfortunately his time with Cleveland was not fruitful. I still have faith in the righty thanks to his solid 3-pitch mix, and I am sure the White Sox are glad to have him back in the system https://t.co/QbzHfDxofm pic.twitter.com/78YfF3Hj5B

Even if the White Sox don’t want to bring him up to the majors right away, getting Pallette back into their system is a win, as he can be a very serviceable major league reliever, especially if he can get his walks under control.
Pallette got off to a solid start in his major league career, as he had a 3.55 ERA at the end of April, while a few rough appearances in May elevated his ERA. Now, the White Sox will get a chance to make some adjustments and get him back on track.
Pallette has a significantly higher ceiling than some the last few guys in the White Sox ‘pen, so if the White Sox get him back, he should slot right into the bullpen to let him show what he can do on the Southside. If he doesn’t work out, the White Sox will lose nothing by sending him back to AAA.
