Tim Anderson Calls Duffey And The Twins ‘Weak’

-

Lucas Giolito’s dominant performance on Wednesday helped put out the firestorm created by Yermin Mercedes 3-0 swing heard around the world. However, the story won’t quite go away just yet.

The incident started when Mercedes launched a home run-off position player amid a 15-4 blowout. The swing sparked a heated debate about the unwritten rules of baseball. As per baseball’s stupid unwritten rules, if you don’t like something someone did you, throw a baseball at them.

Tony La Russa tried to get out in front of it and apologize for Mercedes’s home run after the game.

“They know that I was really upset with it. It shouldn’t have happened,” he said. “I hope it’s enough.”

To no one’s surprise, the Twins retaliated the next day by having Tyler Duffey whip a pitch at Mercedes. The ball missed going behind Mercedes’s legs, but the point was made. Duffey was promptly ejected, much to the delight of Tim Anderson. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli came running out of the dugout to argue and, he too was tossed.

After the game, Tony La Russa had no problem with how the Twins responded.

“It wasn’t obvious to me,” the Hall of Famer said. “The guy threw a sinker. It didn’t look good. So I wasn’t that suspicious. I’m suspicious if somebody throws at somebody’s head. I don’t have a problem with how the Twins handled that.”

Major League Baseball thought otherwise. The MLB announced a three-game suspension for the reliever on May 20th. In addition, Rocco Baldelli got slapped with a one-game suspension.

Anderson Pokes Fun At Twins

While the manager didn’t have Mercedes back Anderson certainly has. He made a comment on an Instagram post saying “The game wasn’t over Keep doing your thing big daddy.”

He also yelled “Keep swinging 3-0!” on Yermin Mercedes Instagram live video as the White Sox were boarding the team plate.

When asked about the Duffey situation Tim Anderson had a great response.

“Definitely a sign of weakness from Duffey and the Twins.”

This is not the first mixup Anderson has had with Duffey. During Anderson’s rookie season in 2016, he hit a home run off of Duffey. Duffey glared at him the entire time he rounded the bases and said a few words. Later in the game, Ryan O Rourke threw a pitch behind Anderson.

Tim Anderson has served as the vocal leader for the White Sox. He is not shy about speaking his mind or calling out opponents. Before the season he poured gas on the fire of the White Sox Twins rivalry.

He took a subtle jab at them when it was reported that the Twins added J.A Happ. Anderson liked Ken Rosenthal’s tweet announcing the news. Anderson has owned Happ during his career. Coming into the 2021 season, Anderson was hitting .563 against him with nine hits in 16 plate appearances.

After the White Sox and Twins had each made some new additions during the offseason Anderson was not afraid to voice his opinion on how much better the White Sox were than the Twinkies.

“Look at the paper, we’re way more athletic than them, and that’s just true facts. But at the end of the day, we know we have to go out and prove it”

He added

We’re going to go head to head and see what happens. But I think we’ve got a good shot of whoopin’ on ’em.”

To this point, Anderson’s prophecy has remained true. The White Sox have won five of six against the Twins, and have blown them out in three of those games.
