The Bulls Should Pursue Unhappy Anthony Davis

-

Despite losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Los Angeles Lakers had a lot to celebrate as LeBron James passed up Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the all-time points category. It seemed there was only one person, Anthony Davis, in that arena last night who didn’t seem to care about that monumental moment enough to watch it happen live. All the losing and the lack of moves made by the front office could drive Anthony Davis out of town. With the Lakers struggling to find trade partners to take on Russell Westbrook in return for valuable assets, the Lakers may fulfill any potential trade requests by Anthony Davis to help retool the roster around LeBron James.

Anthony Davis’ demeanor has changed a lot since they won the NBA championship in the bubble. The team has been reconstructed several times, and the wheels finally fell off. Outside of their 2027 and 2029 first-round picks, the Lakers have no assets to trade to improve the roster. They risk missing the play-in tournament if they stand pat at the deadline. If they trade those picks, the Lakers’ future could be rough for the next decade, but it doesn’t guarantee they’ll even make the playoffs with the player they acquire from that trade. With an aging LeBron James playing the best basketball of his career, it’s time the Lakers consider moving Davis to bring back winning pieces that could help rejuvenate their team.

The asking price for Anthony Davis has gone down significantly compared to previous seasons. Luckily for the Bulls, Zach LaVine’s price hasn’t changed much despite missing the All-Star game this season. Right now, a simple swap for Davis for LaVine makes a lot of sense for both teams, given their situation. It might take a little more like Patrick Williams to nudge the Lakers to bite the bullet and accept their fate. Patrick Williams has done a great job raising his trade value these past few weeks, as he’s shown more aggression on offense. The Lakers would want players who can impact winning immediately but who can also stick around and help them win games in the second half of this decade, especially if they trade away their 2027 and 2029 picks to acquire more talent. Both players being below 30 could entice the Lakers to pull the trigger. The Bulls would have a win-now championship-caliber team with DeMar DeRozan, Anthony Davis, and Nikola Vucevic. They would address their biggest weakness which is interior defense and rebounding. Once Lonzo Ball returns next season, this team has a legitimate shot at winning the Finals, barring injuries.

I wish that Carrot Top had an instructional breakdance video. I need something to watch while I feed my cat some corn, nibblet by nibblet.
