You had to know it was coming. The moment the Chicago Bulls drafted a tall, lean, ridiculously athletic kid from North Carolina in the 1st round, the comparisons to Michael Jordan would be inevitable. The parallels are eerie. Both were taken in the top four of what was considered a stacked draft class. Both had eerily similar numbers in their final college season. It even goes so far as to say both had concerns about their jump shooting ability. The comparisons are valid beyond just what school they went to.

Does this mean anything? No. It’s interesting for sure, but it doesn’t mean Wilson will embark on a pro career like Jordan’s. Nobody will be like MJ. At least that is what we must keep telling ourselves. After all, the Bulls’ young draft pick continues revealing things about himself that make the Jordan similarities impossible to ignore. The latest comes courtesy of Bleacher Report.
Caleb Wilson apparently keeps a list of his grudges.
“And Wilson doesn’t forget.
He literally keeps a list of names on his phone to motivate him and makes it his wallpaper. After beating Kansas this season, he told a reporter that Darryn Peterson was a name on that list before that game. It goes back to Wilson and Peterson being on the same McDonald’s All-American team and Wilson not touching the ball the whole game. If you want to doubt Caleb Wilson, do it at your own peril. Otherwise, you and every team that passed up on him in this draft will end up on a list on Caleb Wilson’s phone.”
Jordan was famous for his competitive streak.
It went so out of control that he literally invented fake stories of other players saying something to him so he could use it as motivation. Jordan was a maniac. All he needed was a tiny push, and he would go on the warpath. To this day, former NBA players tell horror stories of what happened when they made the mistake of crossing him. By the sound of things, Wilson has that same mentality. Any time someone brought up other players they considered on the same level as him, he took that personally. Just look at his performances against fellow top-four picks in this class.
- Vs. Darryn Peterson: 24 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals
- Vs. Cameron Boozer: 23 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block
- Vs. A.J. Dybantsa (preseason): 22 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 steal
Caleb Wilson elevates his game whenever he faces strong opponents, just like Jordan did. His self-confidence is obvious from the way he speaks, too. Wilson has said from the beginning that his goal is to be the best ever. It is all about taking what Jordan built and elevating it to new heights. There should be room on the pedestal for another all-time great.

This confirms it is at least okay to have high expectations.
Again, this is not meant to tell people they should believe Caleb Wilson is destined to be the next Michael Jordan. That isn’t fair to the player. This is meant to show everybody just how high the ceiling is for this young man. He has every tool you can possibly imagine: size, length, athleticism, aggression, intensity, and a competitive streak a mile long. Players like that always find success at the NBA level. If Wilson reaches even 50% of the career Jordan had, it would be a monumental success for the Bulls organization.
They say lightning doesn’t strike twice. History says that is far from the truth. It’s rare, but not impossible. Jordan arrived 44 years ago when Chicago was at its lowest point as a basketball organization. Through talent and sheer will, he lifted them back to relevance. If Wilson believes he is destined to become the guy, that is the first step he must take. The runway is clear. The Bulls are eager to hand him the keys. Will he seize the moment? Based on what we’ve learned, you can bet on it.
