Four days ago, Brett Siegel of Clutch Points broke the news that the Chicago Bulls would be the “biggest sellers in the East.” This may not have come as a surprise to the majority of basketball fans, given that the Bulls are a bottom-dwelling team with a roster of expiring contracts and youthful assets. However, for the fans in the Windy City, this would be a dream come true. Arturas Karnisovas, front office leader for the Bulls, has stood pat at the trade deadline, in favor of participating in the NBA Play-In Tournament, for three straight seasons. A fire sale in an effort to rebuild would be a welcome and shocking sight for their supporters. The initial report from Siegel did not provide any context or evidence to back his claim. Still, in an interview yesterday, he detailed all the moving parts within the organization and how this trade deadline could unfold for Karnisovas’s group.
Coby White Is The Key To It All
Siegel’s breakdown of Chicago starts with the 25-year-old offensive juggernaut Coby White. He notes that he’s one of the many players with expiring contracts this season, and given his improved body of work with the organization since signing his last contract, a new one could be over three times the current rate. While the former Tar Heel well deserves this deal, it doesn’t make sense to be in Chicago. They’ve already inked Josh Giddey and Tre Jones, and Ayo Dosunmu also needs to be paid this summer. For what it’s worth, the team also has a better record without White this season than they do when he’s healthy and playing.
Time to have that painful conversation:
The Bulls should trade Coby White.
With Ayo, Tre, and Giddey running the 3 guard rotation, might be time to flip Coby for an athletic big man.

He will have plenty of suitors, as he’s one of the top three-point shooting and offensive playmaking guards in the NBA. He’d do well in a fast-paced offense alongside an elite guard, or as a sixth man running his own second unit. His value outweighs anyone else Chicago can dangle over the next six weeks.
Patrick Williams A Name To Watch
This would be a huge sigh of relief for Chicago fans. He has been one of the most disappointing players in the franchise over the last five years, one of the most regrettable draft picks of recent memory, and is signed to an extensive and expensive contract. Siegel argues that other teams would be willing to take a stab at Williams due to his rare size, athleticism, and untapped potential. He notes that injuries have played a role in the lack of success for the sixth-year forward, but he has only missed roughly 30% of his possible outings over his career. In any case, dumping Williams would be celebrated by Bulls nation.
Patrick Williams is officially a bust:
Year 1: 9.2 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 48% FG
Year 2: 9.0 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 52% FG
Year 3: 10.2 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 46% FG
Year 4: 10.0 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 44% FG
YEAR 5: 9.7 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 39% FG

Other Names To Monitor
Kevin Huerter and Nikola Vucevic are the two additional names to follow as the deadline nears. Both are on expiring contracts and offer a rare skillset that is often sought after during the NBA trade deadline period. Since both players can shoot well beyond the three-point line and would only be a rental for a few months to a new franchise, they’ll be widely considered valuable assets for draft capital or young prospects. The full interview can be found below, with the Bulls segment spanning from the 18-minute mark to the 23-minute mark.
