Chicago Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson is committed to a full rebuild, and with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews still on the roster, what’s next for two of the greatest Blackhawks of all time?
Davidson had some comments on both Kane and Toews after the 1st round of the draft last night.
Davidson said there's value in having Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews stick around, but that they have to be committed too, and "to this point we haven't heard otherwise."
Said they'd been honest with them that this teardown was coming, but acknowledged it's "real now."

New head coach, Luke Richardson would love to coach two players like Kane, and Toews but both of them do have a $10.5M cap hit for the 2022-23 season, and they do have a no-movement clause on their contracts, which means the Blackhawks can’t move them without their permission.
As of today
Can confirm Chicago, Patrick Kane and his agent will discuss Kane’s future with the organization, again, in the very near future.

With all the young talent coming in after the draft, Kane and Toews would be the ideal pieces to help teach these young guys and help develop them.
After the trade of Alex DeBrincat yesterday hours before the draft, it’s not the first time Kane had his wingman traded, as former GM Stan Bowman went and traded away Artemi Panarin back in 2017 to bring Brandon Saad back to Chicago.
Two superstars that Kane helped developed just gone like that, could end up being the last straw for him, but all we can do is sit and watch what happens.
Patrick Kane’s Career As A Chicago Blackhawk
If this ends up being the last straw for Kaner, then he’ll go down as one of the greatest Blackhawks players of all time, no questions asked.
15-year career in Chicago, he has 430 goals, and 750 assists (1,180 points) in 1,107 games played. Not to mention that he has three Stanley cups, not just one, but three.
He won the Calder trophy in 2007-08, he’s been an all-star four times. Won the Conn Smythe during the 2012-13 season, Art Ross trophy winner in 2015-16, as well as the hart memorial trophy in the same season.
Do you know where he ranks in goals all-time by a Blackhawk? Yeah, he ranks 3rd, right behind Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita.
Kaner needs to stay a Blackhawk and retire a Blackhawk.
Jonathan Toews Career As A Chicago Blackhawk
With the 3rd overall pick in the 2006 NHL entry draft, The Chicago Blackhawks are proud to select, center Jonathan Toews.
In his 14-year career in the NHL, all with the Blackhawks, Toews has 357 goals, 495 assists (852 points), won the Conn Smythe in 2009-10, Selke trophy winner in 2012-13, and only has one all-star appearance which was in 2012-13.
Toews’ production went down last year after missing all of 2020-21 but that was to be expected, he only had 37 points in 71 games played.
We’ll see what Kane and Toews want to do as we get closer to the season.
Keep Kane. Dump Toews. He is not a good player..past his prime. We will continue to suffer for quite a while…2 or 3 years at least. They do not want to spend the $$ to make this a good team, period!
