Why Montez Sweat Is A Better Choice For Chicago Than Chase Young

-

Just hours before the trade deadline expires today, Ryan Poles has made a trade to improve their pass rush! According to reports, the Bears have acquired Montez Sweat from the Washington Commanders. The rumors had Ryan Poles seeking Chase Young.

The Bears needed two things for an incoming player: The ability to get to the quarterback and he needs to stay healthy. Chase Young has missed more than 50% of games during his NFL career. He has only started eight games since 2021.

Montez Sweat is a little older than Young, but is only 27 years old. He missed part of 2021 due to a fractured jaw sustained in week eight, and later in the year he missed a game due to being placed on the Covid list.

When comparing Sweat’s 2023 numbers to current Bears defenders, this acquisition is a no-brainer for Poles. Sweat’s numbers speak volumes. His stats would place first in every category listed.

6.5 Sacks, 27 QB Pressures, 4 QB Hits, 10.6% Pass rush win rate, 76.8 PFF grade.

Poles is reportedly sending Washington the Bears 2nd round pick in the 2024 draft. More details when they become available.

Montez Sweat was more attractive in trade talks due to his ability to stay healthy compared to Chase Young.

Jaylon Johnson Status
