Jahdae Walker had one of the signature moments of the 2025 season for the Chicago Bears. Facing 4th down and needing a touchdown in the final seconds against Green Bay, Caleb Williams hit the rookie for the score. The Bears forced overtime and won the game, eventually using that victory to seal their grip on the NFC North. Getting such a vital play from an undrafted free agent was monumental. It also served as validation for Walker, showing everyone that his unremarkable college career wasn’t due to a lack of talent.
What people wanted to know was whether he could build on that success in his second year. The Bears wouldn’t make it easy. They added Kalif Raymond as a free agent and then drafted Zavion Thomas in the 3rd round. With Rome Odunze and Luther Burden locked at the top spots, Walker would have to battle those two if he wanted to increase his target share. By all accounts, the young receiver looks even better than he did last year. He’s been consistently making plays in practice, earning the trust of Tyson Bagent in several key situations.
Jahdae Walker has a chance to become a special success story.
The Bears have never had a great reputation for finding undrafted gems at wide receiver. There was the ever-underrated Dennis McKinnon in the 1980s, one of the heroes of their 1985 championship run. Then you had Cameron Merideth 10 years ago. It looked like he might blossom into something special before a catastrophic knee injury ruined everything. Since then, it’s been one long parade of interesting names who failed to accomplish much. Walker is closer than anybody since Meredith to earn a serious role in the offense.
His confidence is clearly building. Last year, he was just trying to do enough to make the roster. A strong preseason proved the crucial difference. Then injuries elsewhere allowed him the opportunity to play in actual games down the stretch. This time is different. The Bears have seen what he can do. Now they want to see him take the next step. Master the fundamentals. Clean up the route-running. Become a true professional. All signs point to him doing that.

Walker offers one advantage most other Bears receivers don’t.
That is his size. At 6’3″, he is tied with Odunze for being the tallest on the roster. Everybody else of note is 6’0″ or shorter. Burden, Raymond, and Thomas make up for that with their speed, of course. Still, good teams need a proper blend of size and speed. Jahdae Walker will give Caleb Williams another wide catch radius to use in key situations. Particularly on 3rd down and in the red zone. If he improves his routes, we could be looking at a discount version of Tee Higgins.
It already feels like a foregone conclusion that Walker will make the roster. All comments about him from teammates and coaches have been glowing. He is fighting for playing time now. Some may think being the #4 wide receiver in an offense means little. Yet we saw last season that it actually means a lot. Burden was the fourth-most targeted receiver last season, and he got 60 targets. If Walker had gotten targeted that many times last season, he would’ve finished with 522 yards. You’d take that any day from him.
