Bears are best-equipped to help him win now
Last but certainly not least, there is the just the logical fit of player to team. Looking at the competition between the suitors for Garoppolo, the Bears have more than enough to state their case besides just hometown feel-good stuff. Unlike the 49ers or Browns, they have solid offensive line. Headlined of course by their elite interior of Pro Bowlers Josh Sitton and Kyle Long, not to mention All-Rookie center Cody Whitehair.
Then there’s the presence of a Pro Bowl running back in Jordan Howard. Something every young quarterback could use to get their starting career off the ground. That and a go-to wide receiver. Re-signing Alshon Jeffery is the other off-season priority for Chicago. After all the last thing they’d want to do for their hopeful franchise quarterback is leave him without reliable pass targets.
Don’t forget Dowell Loggains either. The short-stacked offensive coordinator catches a lot of heat for his play calling at times, but he’s shown his prowess with quarterbacks. None more so than Brian Hoyer. Together they put up over 1,400 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions in five starts. Hoyer comes from the same Patriots system and has a similar skill set to Garoppolo.
The difference is Garoppolo is more talented. Imagine what Loggains might’ve done with a Hoyer who had better tools.
