Trade history with New England
There is something to be said of familiarity between two teams doing business. Since Ryan Pace took over as general manager in Chicago, the Patriots have been one of his primary sources on the trade market. In fact he’s conducted three different deals with them since he was hired back in 2015.
- August 2015: Traded OG Ryan Groy for LB Matthew Wells
- September 2015: Traded LB Jon Bostic for 6th round pick
- March 2016: Traded TE Martellus Bennett and 6th round pick for 4th round pick
That communication familiarity is something that would help streamline the process for sure. Besides that there is also another point not to forget. Word is the Patriots would prefer to get Garoppolo out of the AFC. That takes teams like the Browns and Jets off the table, leaving only the 49ers and Bears as the likeliest NFC destinations. San Francisco hasn’t done any notable dealing with New England for 10 years and now they’re breaking in a new GM in John Lynch.
