Over the course of the next few months, I’ll be asking my friends from around the league to evaluate the talent of the 2025 Bears. These four individuals are: a seriously high-ranking executive, an area scout, a pro personnel assistant, and a former personnel man now in various media roles.
On GM, Ryan Poles: “Ryan is a middle of the road evaluator but plenty of GMs are. Sometimes people get wrapped up in the process and actually miss the results. In whatever year Ryan is in now, he’s got a top head coach talent and top quarterbacking talent. If they hit, he’ll be in Chicago a long time.”
On head coach, Ben Johnson: “First off, when did I tell you Ben would be the Bears coach? October? Everybody knew this was happening middle of last season, including Ben. His staff is exceptional for a first timer. DA will be a huge improvement over Flus but watch those wide receivers with Randel El in front of the room. That’s a guy I think will make the leap from position coach directly to head coach. And if the Bears have a productive offensive season, it will be soon.”
On quarterback, Caleb Williams: “He’s got no excuses now. The guy can do absolutely everything but when we scouted their offense last year, no shit, we laughed out loud sometimes. None of it made sense! Ben is going to put the right people in the right places on almost every snap. Caleb just has to process and execute. If he does, he’s going to have a huge year. But I have some doubts.“
Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.
On ownership: “The weirdest owners in the league, I think. All the old guard family owners like the Rooneys, the Maras, the Hunts. They are football people with a capital F. The McCaskeys not only don’t know football, they don’t seem to want to know football. Why? Our owners had far more interaction with Ted than George. I don’t know about the new president.”
