The Chicago Bears haven’t been overly explicit about their plans for the left tackle position going into 2025. That isn’t a big surprise. Braxton Jones is dealing with an ankle injury that ended his 2024 season. When given playing time, Kiran Amegadjie looked like a rookie and has much to improve. There wasn’t any definitive go-to answer when asked about it. That was made even murkier when they drafted big Boston College tackle Ozzy Trapilo in the 2nd round. Some have even indicated Darnell Wright could be moved to the left side.
While all things are possible come training camp, it appears the plan has always been the simplest. Jeff Hughes of Da Bears Blog (and SM) went on the Miller and Condon show for KXnO to discuss the Bears’ draft. There, he revealed an important detail he’s been hearing out of Halas Hall. It appears Jones has a lot of fans on the new coaching staff. They would prefer to have a season working with him, believing he still has untapped potential. If things work out as they hope, he may still have a future in Chicago.
The intrigue with Braxton Jones shouldn’t be a surprise.
Offensive line coach Dan Roushar worked with left tackle Terron Armstead in New Orleans. The former All-Pro shares a highly similar skillset with Braxton Jones, from their athleticism and quickness to their questionable anchor against power. When used correctly, Armstead was a beast. Perhaps Roushar and head coach Ben Johnson feel the same can be true for Jones. Over the past two years, there have been stretches where he has played some really good football. There is no sense in throwing that away without at least seeing if a new, more cohesive offense might unlock his full potential. Jones can seek options elsewhere in free agency if it doesn’t work out this year, leaving Amegadjie and Trapilo to compete for the job.
Roushar likes him. So do I. The insurance is in case he isn’t healthy and with an eye to the future. I predict Caleb getting rid of the ball a lot quicker most of the time this season.
Thankfully, the new Bears coaching regime is not going to continuing flip-flopping as much as the writers covering their team. I can just imagine the anxiety, lack of confidence and insecurity of players who glace at articles or headlines saying that they have promise, they’re really doing well, and then two days later, that they’re being replaced, or traded or benched – when they haven’t had a practice, or played a game since two days ago. Maybe veterans can ignore the “noise,” but young players on their first contract, insecure as every, faced with the next “arm talent,” “big as… Read more »
I imagine Braxton will have far more help than he really ever got to this point. He has been mostly fine. Hopefully he packs on the 10 lbs they wanted and they can improve upon his anchor. 3 of the Tackles went in the top 9 of that ugly draft. Give me the 2026 class of tackles over this one. There was no need to force it and set you back further. He costs less than $4 million next year.
I am making a good salary from home $4580-$5240/week , which is amazing under a year ago I was jobless in a horrible economy. I thank God every day I was blessed with these instructions and now its my duty to pay it forward and share it with Everyone,

Isn’t that the whole point of changing a coaching staff? I wish they would have done that with Justin Fields! Then the two draft picks that went for Williams and Odunze could have shored up the offensive line, although they would have been spending more resigning him, Fields that is, if he had a tremendous year! And considering what Johnson has done with quarterbacks, I’m sure Justin Fields would have been just fine! This just shows what fresh eyes can see and do. Sometimes it’s just the right scheme that needs a player, or a player that needs the right… Read more »
