With the Chicago Bears offense being so bad in 2019, it’s been hard to find bright spots. Allen Robinson is the most obvious with a tremendous year going over 1,000 receiving yards. However, people have somewhat overlooked the season rookie running back David Montgomery has had. Despite often atrocious blocking up front, the 3rd round pick from Iowa State cobbled together over 1,000 yards from scrimmage for the Bears. A nice feat under difficult circumstances.
He had a number of good highlights along the way, but it seems he saved his best for the season finale. On the first drive of the second half, the Bears basically decided to put the ball in his gut and let him carry the load. This Montgomery did, chewing up most of the 75 yards required, including an absolute bulldozer of a 14-yard touchdown that saw him drag not one, not two, not three, but four different Minnesota Vikings on his way to the end zone.
That play put the Bears up 18-6 after a frustrating first half. The first notable time the offense had really tried to go through him since the game against the Chargers two months ago. One can only hope this serves as a reminder that the kid is actually kind of good at what he does.
