VIDEO: Latest Matt Nagy Presser Found A Way Past Rock Bottom

-

Matt Nagy always seems to pull out his worst performances as a head coach when the Green Bay Packers are involved. It’s a big reason why he is 1-7 against them. Sunday night at Lambeau Field might’ve been his magnum opus. After getting such an unexpectedly strong start from his team in the first half, Nagy was thoroughly outclassed in the second by Matt Lafleur and his staff. Never was it clearer that the Bears head coach had lost his fastball than in the 4th quarter.

Facing a steep deficit in a do-or-die game, Nagy had the ball near midfield with 4th and inches. To the shock of everybody in the stadium and at home, he elected to punt the ball back to the Packers. He was rewarded with Aaron Rodgers engineering a 9-minute touchdown drive to clinch the game. Then for good measure, Nagy settled for a field goal with under two minutes to go despite trailing by 18.

His defense for those cowardly decisions? About what you’d expect.

It’s amazing to hear Nagy insist he’s usually aggressive in those comments. Coming into this season, he ranked 21st in aggressiveness when it came to going for it on 4th down. So he isn’t being honest with himself saying that. Yet somehow this presser gets even better. While addressing the health issues on the offensive line, he made some noteworthy comments about the plans for rookies Teven Jenkins and Larry Borom moving forward. Including the idea of swapping them from left tackle to right tackle and vice versa.

This goes back to the concerns about Matt Nagy and his understanding of what is best for his players. How to use them properly. Jenkins came out of Oklahoma State as a full-time right tackle. Then the first thing they do upon his arrival is switched him to left tackle. Then when Borom played well in training camp, they moved him to the left side too. Now after Jenkins struggled in his first outing at the position, the coaches are already considering the idea of a change.

This goes right back to the common assessment about Nagy’s style. No plan. Just throw things at the wall to see what sticks. He does it with his game plans and his roster management. It’s no wonder he can be so easy to beat.
