Justin Fields didn’t have the best start to his preseason debut in the first half. Some misfired throws. A fumble. Thankfully he settled down enough to get a field goal as time expired. It would seem that turnaround was enough to get him settled because the 11th overall pick emerged dealing in the second half. His calm and poise were on full display as he directed the offense to a touchdown.
It featured some really good decisions through the air and was capped by an eight-yard scramble for a touchdown. One that featured his trademark speed.
Justin Fields wasn’t done though.
One the next series, he again flashed that speed for a 21-yard gain. Just as the Dolphins were trying to collect themselves, the rookie showed off that arm of his. On a rollout to his right, Fields looked back left and found tight end Jesse James for a wide open 30-yard touchdown. Those two have shared a major connection. It was on display again at this moment.
These were the sort of things that fans were desperate to see from Fields. Calm in the pocket. Good decision-making. Taking some shots down the field and of course his ability to run. The Dolphins had no answers for him. Yes, it’s their 2nd and 3rd team guys but the bottom line is Fields went through them as if they weren’t even there. Surrounded by 2nd and 3rd team guys.

Is he ready to become an All-Pro? Of course not. The point of this was to see whether he could take what he was doing in practice and apply it to live game action. The rookie didn’t disappoint. He looked every bit of what he is and what he can be in the future. It falls to the Bears to continue working with him and honing his craft.
