VIDEO: Justin Fields Delivers Lowkey Flex While Meeting Young Fan

-

Justin Fields has done everything asked of him and more this offseason for the Chicago Bears. In addition to working relentlessly to prepare for the upcoming season, he has also been a model citizen off the field. Staying out of trouble and doing his best to engage with fans whenever he has an opportunity. That chance came while he was doing a special camp called #FamilyTies alongside fellow QBs Deshaun Watson and Jordan Love.

It was here he took some time to meet with a young fan. For all the talk about his stoic demeanor, he seemed to handle the encounter with class, engaging the young man with questions. Amidst that encouraging display, some people might’ve missed the message Fields was sending. Eagle-eyed viewers might’ve caught it. While walking up to the fan, the QB is wearing a shirt titled “Rated Rookie.” By itself, it isn’t anything special.

That is until you notice the gold chain dangling right above it.

The #1 rated rookie. That is some brilliantly subtle flexing right there. Fields has always been a guy known for his Instagram work and this is a perfect example. He’s made it clear since he was drafted he believes he is the best quarterback in the draft. Being selected 11th overall and the fourth QB off the board is something he probably didn’t take too well.

One thing he doesn’t lack is self-confidence. That little fashion statement makes it pretty clear what he thinks about himself. The amount of work he’s putting in this offseason suggests he aims to prove it.

Justin Fields is already pulling at his leash

This is not somebody who likes being told he won’t be able to play right away. Obviously, he won’t say that publicly but don’t be fooled. The decision by head coach Matt Nagy to sit him in favor of Andy Dalton is chaffing at him. Fields loves football. He wants to play. When told he can’t? He has a history of moving mountains to prove otherwise. Such as transferring out of Georgia as a sophomore. Or using a lawyer to make sure he can start right away at Ohio State.

If there is a path to getting on the field, then Justin Fields is going to find it. In this instance, his job is clear. Hit training camp like a thunderclap and ball out. Do everything possible to impress the coaches until they have no other choice than to admit he is far superior to Dalton. Can he do that in a month? Nobody knows but he aims to do everything in his power to try.

This video is another message of how high his personal expectations are.

That should excite Bears fans more than anything. There is no “aw shucks” attitude with Fields like there was with Mitch Trubisky. This is a quarterback who carries himself like the MFIC (look it up). He’s expected to be the leader. Be the guy who sets the level of expectation for everybody else. Fields has no fear in that regard.
