VIDEO: Justin Fields’ Debut With Jeff Joniak On The Call Is Way Better

Those who watched the Chicago Bears preseason opener against Miami had Adam Amin and Jim Miller on the call. They did an admirable job all things considered. It was easy enough to listen to, with proper analysis and a sense of excitement whenever the team did something good. However, there is just something about play-by-play man Jeff Joniak that hits different. The man is a master of his craft and it is always fun listening to him work. Especially when Justin Fields started doing his thing Saturday.

The team provided a taste of it with their latest episode of 1920 Football Drive. One that covered the start of training camp through the game against Miami. Joniak was in midseason form during the action. Something that can be hard to do in a contest that doesn’t matter. When Fields was in action though, it was hard not to sense the excitement in the air. The previously unseen camera footage made it so much better.

That is something Bears fans can get used to.

It isn’t yet known when Justin Fields will become THE guy for this team. Many would prefer right now. Why even bother with the Andy Dalton experiment? Head coach Matt Nagy though has a plan. One that he believes is best not only for Fields himself but the franchise as a whole. He’s not thinking about 2021. He is thinking about the next decade-plus. Nagy wants this kid to be a superstar that carries the organization to sustained success.

If that means sacrificing some games this season? So be it. Dalton isn’t anything special but he is a more than capable stopgap. Somebody who can keep the car on the road. Fields will be the man sooner or later and it certainly looks like he will be a joy to watch when that time comes.
