Jaquan Brisker is becoming the talk of Chicago Bears training camp, and it hasn’t even been a week yet. Through three days of practices he’s made multiple standout plays, capped by a beautiful interception of Justin Fields on day three. Anybody with eyes can tell he will be a starter on defense when the season kicks off in September. He’s been that impressive. Still, that doesn’t change the fact he is a rookie.
Rookies must earn their spurs in the locker room. This is done in various ways. Thankfully the hazing rituals of decades past are over, but youngsters must still carry the pads and helmets of veterans after practice, pay for dinners, and of course, provide some entertainment. Teams often have their rookies do some sort of talent show. Brisker decided to flaunt his music chops by doing “Freestyle” by famous rap artist Rod Wave.

Jaquan Brisker is a born performer, which isn’t hard to imagine.
One will often find that players who elevate their play in big games often have a knack for being comfortable on stage in front of people. Despite how they may come across during interviews, it’s in their DNA to perform. Brisker isn’t the most outspoken player. He comes across as quiet and introverted in some ways. Yet when the lights are on, he seems to flip a switch and strives to entertain. It is why several athletes have had successful careers in the entertainment industry.
Maybe Jaquan Brisker can someday help invent the new version of the Super Bowl Shuffle. Jokes aside, it is great to see the team bonding in camp. While the work has been hard, head coach Matt Eberflus has managed the locker room well. Keeping players loose is a critical part of the job, considering how tough the grind can sometimes be. Kudos to Brisker for being a great sport about it.
