If the NFL has taught us anything, it’s that good football players aren’t limited to one generation. So often people will see fathers excel in the league only to have their sons do the same years later. Genetics plays a huge part in whether people are good at athletics. So is it really crazy to think that Devin Hester might end up producing the next generation of ridiculous athletes in his bloodline?
All one has to do is watch his son Drayton for an answer. A video recently surfaced showcasing the 8-year old through a series of highlights. It is apparent almost immediately that the younger Hester is exhibiting the same exact talents his father showcased for so many years in college and the NFL. It won’t be a surprise to see him enter the league 12-13 years from now. That is how obvious it appears.
If only football allowed drafting of players at any time.
The idea of Drayton wearing the same uniform as his daddy in Chicago would be incredibly awesome. By the look of things, it appears Hester also made sure to encourage his son to focus on the offensive side of the ball. People tend to forget Hester himself entered the NFL as a defensive back out of Miami. The Bears didn’t switch him over to offense until his second season. He never was quite able to become a standout receiver.
Drayton may not end up having that problem. Not only will he be able to do his thing on special teams, but he’ll also gain even more notoriety with exploits on offense. It would be so cool if he somehow ended up in a Bears uniform down the line. Such things are too rare in professional sports. Seeing another Hester wear #23 would undoubtedly excite fans to no end.

Devin Hester has found ways to stay entertaining
Not just through his son of course. A few months ago he conducted an awesome interview where he talked about his career. Included were some wild behind-the-scenes stories. Most notable of which was a previously undersold beef with Jay Cutler. The former Bears quarterback wasn’t shy with his thoughts on Hester, never believing him to be wide receiver material. That always led to tension between the two.
It’s a credit to Devin Hester the person that such problems never became public until after he retired. He was never going to let a personal issue hamper the team. Another reason why the man should be so beloved in this city. The only regret Bears fans have is that he didn’t get to hoist a Lombardi trophy. Something the greatest return man in NFL history more than deserves.
A harsh reality of this sport.
Not everybody achieves all their dreams. Who knows. Maybe Drayton could end up being the one who completes that mission, honoring his father by helping his future team to a championship. One can safely assume the elder Hester would be just as overjoyed. Especially after watching the boy on his journey every step of the way.
