VIDEO: Bears Tease Look At Nick Foles vs. Mitch Trubisky Behind The Scenes

The Chicago Bears knew it was going to be hard for fans to get properly invested and excited for the team this year. Nobody allowed at practices. No preseason games. All people have to go on is what the media is telling them from practice observations. That isn’t going to offer much. So the team decided to create a web series on YouTube called “1920 Football Drive.” Sort of a Bears version of the hit HBO series “Hard Knocks” that documents a team’s journey through training camp. After an introductory episode one, it appears things are about to get really interesting in episode two as Nick Foles vs. Mitch Trubisky takes center stage.

The quarterback competition is the talk of Bears fandom and even the wider NFL. It’s the first one the organization has had since 2008. Will it be the former #2 pick securing one final chance to realize his potential? Or will it be the former Super Bowl MVP who can’t seem to shake his label as a career backup? The answer to that won’t be known for weeks to come.

That said, the Bears seem ready to share some of the behind-the-scenes action. A recent teaser video surfaced that showed quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo conducting a film session with Foles, Trubisky, and Tyler Bray present. He runs through some practice video, indicating to each guy how he wants balls thrown and where they’re expected to go in relation to the wide receiver down the field.

A nice little teaser for what could be ahead when the episode debuts.

Nick Foles seems to have the edge over Trubisky

Head coach Matt Nagy isn’t prone to making knee-jerk decisions on such important matters. The odds are he’ll stretch this thing out right to the start of the regular season. He must make absolutely sure he is picking the right guy. Based on recent takeaways? It seems like whatever early edge Trubisky held after the first week is long gone.

Foles has begun to turn the dial up a notch. He’s looked smoother in drills and really started to execute closer to the level that made him a Super Bowl MVP a few years ago. This included a two-minute drill against the #1 defense where he went 6-of-7 with a touchdown. Trubisky is far from defeated, but he’ll have to raise his own level to match that sooner than later.

Otherwise he could get a taste of what Foles dealt with for years. Sitting on the bench.
