VIDEO: Another Week, Another Ridiculous Rodney Adams Catch

-

It’s usually a sign that a player refuses to be denied when he just keeps making plays, regardless of the setting. Be it in practice or games. That seems to be the case with wide receiver Rodney Adams. The Chicago Bears signed the former 5th round pick this offseason after he came out of retirement to pursue acting. The love of the game pulled him back and he came to the Bears hoping for an opportunity.

He got one and is running away with it. Last week he led the team with 54 yards against Miami. The highlight being a fantastic 50/50 catch he made where he went up and got it from Justin Fields. It was a play nobody expected from him. Safe bet that most at the time felt he was never going to top himself. Especially not just one week later. Yet that is exactly what happened as the receiver plucked the ball off the top of a defender’s helmet for a 73-yard touchdown against the Buffalo Bills.

It was the lone bright spot of an otherwise ugly first half.

The Bears offense couldn’t find any traction once again with Andy Dalton at quarterback. Another string of three-and-outs and a fumble derailed their only decent march of the first half. Not to mention an ugly interception to end the half. It was another reminder of Dalton’s limitations as a quarterback. The calls for Justin Fields only figure to get louder as the regular season approaches.

Head coach Matt Nagy has promised to stick to his plan of starting Dalton and give the rookie time to adjust. Considering how awful the veteran has looked, that may not be possible. As for Rodney Adams though? He took another massive step in his quest to crack the main roster. It doesn’t hurt he has been the only receiver to do much of anything this preseason.
