Two-Time Champ QB Insists Caleb Williams Is A Massive Upgrade For Bears

-

The Chicago Bears made a difficult decision this off-season when they chose to trade Justin Fields. GM Ryan Poles made it for multiple reasons: his expiring rookie contract, his slow development as a passer, and the fear that his body wouldn’t be able to survive the rate of hits he’d been accruing up to this point in his career. Combine that with the acquisition of the #1 overall pick from the trade with Carolina last year and there were too many reasons for the Bears to move on. The presence of Caleb Williams in this draft class didn’t hurt as well.

Many see the USC star as one of the two or three best quarterback prospects to emerge from college in over a decade. Right up there with Andrew Luck and Trevor Lawrence, both of whom became Pro Bowlers. The Bears appear to see the same. While they have evaluated every quarterback in the 2024 class, none of the other top options ever seemed to challenge Williams for that top spot. That became especially true after the scouting combine. One person who isn’t surprised by this is Phil Simms. A two-time Super Bowl champion and one of the best quarterbacks of the 1980s, he never understood the argument from some people that Chicago should’ve stuck with Fields.

Having watched both players extensively, he is 100% certain the Bears are about to upgrade in a big way. He explained why on the Ross Tucker Podcast.

Nobody can say the Bears haven’t prepared for Caleb Williams.

Poles has constructed an offense infused with viable talent, both young and experienced. D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen should form a dynamic tandem at wide receiver. Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett will be a quality pairing at tight end as well. Four starters are returning to the offensive line. They have three solid options at running back. The Bears can even add further to the equation with their 9th overall pick. Williams is probably stepping into the best situation a #1 pick has in several years.

Subscribe to the BFR podcast and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

If he is as good as Simms and others insist, Chicago is about to become a much tougher opponent to handle. Matt Eberflus already has the defense playing like a top unit again. Caleb Williams might be the missing piece that brings everything together. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron has experience developing quarterbacks of different styles. He should be able to work around what Williams does best. If Simms is correct, all those plays Fields seemed to miss will start connecting.

The eternal problem of the internet surfaces in all websites these days. Those without meaning in their lives, find meaning by becoming targets of hatred because they are incapable of being respectful and maintaining the type of narrative that may be critical but does it in a tolerable manner. They think no one will listen to them unless they yell louder than then next guy. If yelling loud doesn’t do it, they pick a controversial target to attack or support to get attention. Then they puff themselves up with their notoriety. They like being hated. They get off on it.… Read more »

@tomwaddlestoldya you better get ready because every time Williams has a game with less than 300 yards, throws an interception, doesn’t see an open receiver, fumbles gets sacked because he held the ball too long or just plain misses a throw I will be here to remind you that HE IS NOT PERFECT.

Waddle Told Ya Did you waddle out of your sewer spot for a breather? Did the santitation department open up the manhole covers in your area of town? Been a while since we heard your self-ingratiating ass say anything at all. Maybe you studied the dictionary a bit to find words other than durrr, durrr durrr.

You look like an utter clown because you don’t engage in conversations other than to put up some drivel like this.

Tom Twaddle, I told you to sit down and shut up. I’ll be nice. STFU, oh, that’s me being nice.

@Rocketrider Man, wish I buy you your favorite beverage right now…@Dr.Melhus Well said as always. I finally broke down and watched a bunch of video of the Bears passing game and CW(good and bad, ND game, Utah, etc). Many of the critics love to say that CW will have trouble with the better coverages and faster pace of the game(rush, etc) but I started thinking. Are they taking into account how well DJ, Keenan Allen, Everett and Kmet get separation? The frequency of winning in contested catches is another area. Did CW even have WR or targets capable of making… Read more »

Twty and tinagena should start their own website. Call it wannabe gms. Neither has a clue. Think they are the smartest person in the room. But that’s all in their own heads. Now twty is jumping on CW. Last year it was Bryce Young. Thanks for adding nothing to the discussion the both of you. Well there is that snarky BS you both add in. And the hate for Ryan Poles.
