Mitch Trubisky has his fair share of detractors. Many of them are in the national media. Guys who never actually played football in the NFL. However, those who have? They exhibit a much fairer and more optimistic view of the Chicago Bears quarterback. Phil Simms is one of his most outspoken supporters, believing he’s made tremendous strides since his rookie season. Fellow former QB Steve Young agrees.
Matt Bowen, a former defensive back and renowned tape guru has spoken at length about Trubisky’s improvement. Yet the narrative remains that he is the undeniable weak link on a roster that is capable of going to a Super Bowl. While it’s true that the season hinges on how well Trubisky plays, it’s more because this NFL doesn’t allow defenses to carry the load like it use to. A team needs its quarterback to play like a top guy. Maybe not all the time, but when it matters most.
Is Trubisky capable of that? Two former Super Bowl champions think so. Rodney Harrison, who won two rings with the New England Patriots, told NBC Sports that the Bears passer is fully capable of realizing that goal.
“When I’m looking at the Chicago Bears, I’m looking at their offense. We know they have a great defense, a top 5 defense. But the big question, they have a lot of skill guys, can Mitchell Trubisky take them to the next level?
I look at them last year, they allowed him to throw the football down the field and be more aggressive. I think he can take this team to the Super Bowl, I think that’s how good he can be.”
Harrison wasn’t alone. Hall of Fame former head coach Tony Dungy also stated his firm belief that 2019 will be a big year for Trubisky.

Mitch Trubisky has already shown he can handle the pressure
Trubisky wasn’t perfect in 2018, but his improvements were obvious. As the season went on and he gained comfort in the new offense, his ability to execute became more pronounced. Especially late in games. Go back and watch his 4th quarters against Green Bay, San Francisco, Minnesota, and Philadelphia. In each and every one of them, he was making plays down the stretch to either win the game or set the Bears up with a chance to.
That is all a team can ask for from their quarterback. Put them in position to win every week. Trubisky is capable of that. He doesn’t have to be Superman. This is a deep and talented roster. They have an elite defense and a more diverse array of weapons on offense. Trubisky knows his job. Protect the ball and get it to the playmakers. It isn’t as easy as that, but it is that simple. That is what he’s been tirelessly working towards all offseason.
The Bears are confident he’s getting there. Seems they’re not alone.
