It’s always important not to get carried away by rumors. Most should be ignored. However, some have to be addressed because of their sheer lunacy. One has supposedly popped up about the Minnesota Vikings courtesy of the NFC North News profile on Twitter. Obviously, it must be taken with a grain of salt. That said, the level of detail involved is either geniusly crafted or 100% true. If it is the latter, then it means the prospects of a Chicago Bears victory on Sunday just went way up.
The story goes that Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell was on a tirade during practice. He was angry with his team’s constant inability to protect the football. They have ten fumbles this season. Josh Oliver committed a big one against Kansas City last weekend, allowing the Chiefs to score first and setting the tone for the game. O’Connell apparently ran a physical drill to discipline his players on protecting the football better. That is when an accident happened involving running back Alexander Mattison.
The Chicago Bears have to love this if it’s true.
The fact no local Minnesota reporters have confirmed it leaves plenty of room for skepticism. That said, it would offer a glaring look at how quickly things are crumbling for the Vikings. They were 13-3 last year, one of the best teams in the NFC. Most felt that record was hollow, forged by a remarkable string of good fortune in one-score games. It was confirmation when the New York Giants beat them in the playoffs. Now they are 1-4 to start the 2023 season, and all four losses have been by one score.
Superstar receiver Justin Jefferson is injured. They have one of the worst rushing attacks in the league. Nothing seems to be going right for them, and all of this is taking place before what will be a rainy and cold day at Soldier Field against the Chicago Bears. If this rumor is true, the Vikings will go into this game lacking focus or cohesion. It is almost impossible to win games like that. If the Bears roll to a blowout victory, that might be some confirmation the rumor was legit.
