Top Sports Radio Host Warns NFL To Beware of the Bears

-

Colin Cowherd believes Chicago is most underrated NFL team

The excitement around Trubisky is obvious. He has a chance to become the first true franchise quarterback Chicago has had in decades. Fulfilling what everyone had hoped Jay Cutler and Rex Grossman would be. That is what keeps people going for now. Then again, Cowherd says there are more reasons to think giving up on 2017 is way too premature. In fact he went so far as to warn other teams of what the Bears are, and could become.

A bold statement, and not entirely unfounded. Keep this in mind. The Bears are 2-4, but their two victories were against teams with winning records. The Pittsburgh Steelers were 2-0 and the Baltimore Ravens were 3-2. They also accomplished those victories despite little contribution from the passing game. Chicago had 194 yards combined passing in those two contests.

They have the look of a team that’s so close

Not only that but one could argue this team is two mistakes away from being 4-2. Against the Atlanta Falcons in the opener they were inside the 10-yard line. Two passes that should’ve been touchdowns fell incomplete. Josh Bellamy was held while breaking to his left, throwing off the timing that caused the ball to hit his fingertips. On the next play Jordan Howard dropped a pass that hit him square in the gut. Replays showed he could’ve easily found his way in the end zone. The Bears lost 23-17.

A couple weeks later they had another huge opportunity. The game against the Minnesota Vikings was tied 17-17 with just under two minutes left. Chicago had the ball and a field goal likely wins it. Unfortunately Mitch Trubisky got ahead of himself. On first down he rolled out right trying to find an open receiver. He thought he had tight end Zach Miller but didn’t read safety Harrison Smith. He lofted the ball back across his body and Smith intercepted it. Minnesota kicked the ensuing field goal to escape with a win.

That close. They could be hunting for the NFC North crown right now if not for those miscues. Aaron Rodgers is out for the years. Detroit is falling back to earth. This team is still just scratching the surface of what it can do.
