Timetable For Potential Justin Fields Trade Revealed By Former GM

-

In the most recent Hoge and Jahns podcast episode, the guys welcomed Randy Mueller, a former long-time NFL General Manager who earned the NFL Executive of the Year award in 2000. While the overall conversation was engaging, there was a notable moment when Randy discussed a potential timeframe for the Chicago Bears to consider moving and trading Justin Fields.

“This might be one where they maximize value by waiting to mid-April, a couple days before the draft, as a pushback window.”

If Randy’s prediction is accurate, it adds an intriguing element to the off-season. Last year, Bears GM Ryan Poles traded the top pick to the Carolina Panthers on March 11th, an entire month until the draft. Poles will be evaluating Justin Fields throughout the 3 remaining games and might strategically delay any draft day decisions.

As Randy suggested, such a move could optimize the trade value for Fields, given the demand for quarterbacks like him in the market. With numerous coaching positions opening up after the season, Fields could potentially find favorable landing spots based on a franchise’s needs and coaching scheme. The Atlanta Falcons will emerge as a preferred destination, as commonly speculated. If Randy’s timeline holds true, the quarterback discussion will dominate daily conversations not only in Chicago but also nationwide, making for an eventful and lengthy off-season leading up to the draft.

Mr. Poles, please consider trading Fields and Herbert to Atlanta for Jihan. Roschon and I would thank you.

PoochPest, you bring valid points and I appreciate your views. Sean Payton has been at it for a long time. My point is they are all learning. Maybe I’m wrong but I think a lot of those short passes were meant to test Fields. Everyone was saying he couldn’t do it consistently. That’s why I think they should get one more shot next season. If they trade the panthers pick and draft well, we could be set up for the future even if we dump Getsy and/or Fields next season.

@SamK Between how Williams acts after losses and what he’s said to press himself — implying he’s as talented right now as Pat Mahomes is — there are clear character concerns. It’s fair to question how he’ll fit into a locker room.

Ryan Poles passed on Jalen Carter last year because of concerns about his character and I hope he does the same this year with Williams.

@spank73 I agree with you about impatient. I AM impatient. But I do think people and organizations should be given a chance. BUT, time is precious. During preseason and OTAs, we presume coaches are working with players in private, but when the season starts, the coaches should be watching every action and non-action and analyzing everything. It isn’t difficult to improve from game to game, week to week. But the players shouldn’t stay stagnant or get worse. Denver lost their first 3 games too. Denver’s defense gave up 70 points to Miami and Vance Joseph was heavily criticized, Sean Payton… Read more »

What is the matter with you????
You sound like a logical, normal human being instead of a raving lunatic mouthing off into a microphone.
You need to slag on Justin Fields from your armchair because he’s on the field. (Unlike me, who slags on Luke Getsy because I can see through walls and know his chalkboard has been cleaned by the cleaning crew for six months.)
Thanks for refreshing logic.
