Think Kyler Gordon Can’t Make You Cry? Think Again

-

Football is a difficult game, both on the mind and body. It takes tremendous sacrifices to learn and play at a high level. Perhaps no position group faces a greater challenge in the sport than cornerbacks. Their job is to hold athletic wide receivers to minimal production every week. The conditioning and discipline required for that are incredible. Kyler Gordon knew this and embraced the position anyway.

After a long career at Washington, his moment finally arrived when the Chicago Bears made him their first pick in the 2nd round of the 2022 draft. Like most prospects, it was a wonderful moment for Gordon. He celebrated with his family before heading down to the stage to receive his hat and jersey. Yet the best gift of all was waiting for him after the draft was over. He received a hand-written from his parents expressing their utmost pride at what he’s achieved.

Have tissues available for this one.

Many players that reach the NFL don’t get that kind of love and support from their parents. Kyler Gordon is a lucky man. It certainly shows in how he plays. His passion for the game is evident on every snap. He looks like a man who fears failure and doesn’t want to let down the people he loves. This tender moment reflects that. It is likely another reason the Bears drafted him. That kind of self-motivation often carries athletes to great success.

Expectations are high for Gordon, and rightfully so. His speed, quickness, and instincts made him a menace to several Pac-12 wide receivers. It got to a point where quarterbacks tried not to throw in his direction as often as possible. That is why the Bears no doubt loved the idea of pairing him with Jaylon Johnson. That could give the team two quality cover corners to build around moving forward.
