The Opinion On Kevin Warren From Around NFL May Surprise You

-

Plenty of Chicago Bears fans don’t like Kevin Warren. The new team president is viewed largely as a glorified numbers cruncher who was brought in solely to complete a new stadium deal. That hasn’t happened yet, leading many to think the guy is completely useless. Now, he appears to be inserting himself further into the football side of the organization as the team reaches its seventh straight loss. Lots of people are horrified by this, believing Warren needs to stay in his lane as the “business expert.”

This leads to an interesting question. Do people inside the NFL share these views with fans and media? A source informed SM this is not the case. In fact, many applaud Warren for having the willingness to take charge in an organization ruled by anarchy and dysfunction for the past decade. GM Ryan Poles may be the football guy and still has plenty of respect around the league. However, there is a feeling the Bears gave him tons of leeway over the past three years to do whatever he needed and botched his chance. He hired the wrong coach, left key areas of the roster neglected, and hasn’t fostered a winning culture in three years.

Yet people still think Warren should stay off his back? That makes no sense.

Kevin Warren is determined to fix this thing.

He’s already received the green light from ownership to spend whatever resources necessary to land the best possible head coach. Warren may have said Poles would be the point man in this search, but local insiders have suggested the president is the one actually running the show. Let’s not forget a few key details. Warren had no say in Poles’ hire in 2022. He arrived a few months after it happened. That is always an important factor in professional sports. Also, Poles only has one year left on his current contract. Unless the Bears rectify that soon, they may scare off top candidates who fear the GM will be fired if they don’t win immediately.

Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

That is why if Poles isn’t 100% on board, it might be best for the two sides to part ways. Kevin Warren could then align the GM and head coach from the start. Is that his plan? Not necessarily. Still, he seems more than willing to make the tough decisions if forced to. The Bears haven’t had somebody like that at the top in a long time. People may not like that. He comes across as a politician who thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room. The reality is you may need somebody like that atop this organization.

All these people must be emotional snowflakes with the way they think of president/GM/HC “alignment.”
When you interview, if either side is lying about what they want and how they want to get there, you don’t have alignment. If they are honest, you hire them or not.
Don’t lie. Or don’t take the job. It can’t be difficult.

People seem to think that cultures are created and goals aligned magically. That is what far too many people “believe” in. NOTHING happens magically. NOTHING happens because some dumbass says that he can “fix” it. All by his dumbass self. It takes time and meetings of the stakeholders to either get onboard or get lost. I don’t know if Warren and Poles have discussed this prior to Eberflus being shown the door, but they probably should have. What do we want? HOW are we doing it? Who is doing what, or who isn’t. Organizations waste a lot of time looking… Read more »

It’s telling we’re down to the last 4 games and there’s no word (at least publicly), of a contract extension for Poles. If Poles is under a microscope, which he should be and with one year left on his contract, that would greatly narrow any potential HC candidates. You have to do what’s best for the organization, and if that means parting ways with Poles, so be it, or if it means signing him to a contract extension, then so be it. That’s a decision for Warren to make, and hopefully his decision only, without any interference from ownership, but… Read more »

The only thing Warren does is mugs for the cameras trying to inflate he ego while looking for another job when he fails at this like he failed as B10 comish.

The Chicago Bears organization has gone through years of disappointment with changes to General Manager and Head Coach but the one thing that has remained constant is the owner. It seems they keep repeating the same mistakes and keep insisting on making the choices when they aren’t qualified football experts. The McCaskey’s chose the Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, then they hired Ryan Poles, and then they hired Kevin Warren. This is backwards and should have been handled differently. The problem is the McCaskey’s don’t realize they are the ones hurting this team. They need to hire the President and… Read more »
