The Davante Adams Exit From Green Bay Story Keeps Getting Better

-

It was a considerable shock earlier this offseason when the Green Bay Packers traded Davante Adams. He was by far their best offensive weapon. After successfully signing Aaron Rodgers to a lucrative extension, many felt the team would also find a way to secure their superstar receiver. Instead, they traded him to the Las Vegas Raiders. Many thought it was the Packers not wanting to pay top dollar for a receiver, opting for a more future-thinking strategy.

In reality, that is not true at all. Green Bay not only tried hard to keep Adams, they even offered more money than the Raiders did. This is what insider Ian Rapoport explained on The Pat McAfee Show. Adams would’ve gotten more money in the first two years of his new deal had he stayed with the Packers. If it was about the money, there is no way he should’ve left. It is clearer than ever the receiver didn’t want to be in Green Bay anymore.

That flies in the face of what Rodgers said months ago.

Players come to Green Bay to play with him. To think his best receiver and supposed BFF turned out top money to get away from him has to sting. Davante Adams hasn’t come clean on exactly why he left. The only explanation is he wanted to reunite with former college teammate and best friend, Derek Carr. While that makes some sense, it still feels like there are gaps in the logic. He abandoned a team that went to the NFC championship two out of the last three years and sits in a mediocre division to a team that hasn’t won a playoff game since 2002 and is in the toughest division in football.

There has to be more to this story than wanting to reunite with a friend. Either way, it is clear the Packers aren’t quite as strong of a team as they were last year. While they did add multiple new receivers to the mix, none of them are of Adams’ caliber by a wide margin. It is hoped Rodgers will be able to make the most out of what they have and keep the team in the mix for a Super Bowl title.
