The Chicago Bears Will Never Get To See The Satisfying Decline Of Aaron Rodgers’ Dominance

-

On Sunday night, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 45-30, despite Chicago leading at halftime 27-21. Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers continued his dominance over the Bears as he passed for 341 yards and four touchdowns. Rodgers currently holds a 22-5 record over Chicago as it appears that the Bears will never get a chance to win a game against future Hall of Fame quarterback ever again.

There Are Too Many Circumstances That Limit The Bears’ Chances Of Beating Rodgers

Rodgers has been insanely successful against the Bears during his career, as his 22 wins with the Packers have come in different varieties. There have been games in which the Packers have blown out, come from behind, or one in the last second against their Chicago rival. There have been too many instances where Rodgers was the main reason for a Packers’ victory over the Bears, especially in the last decade.

Although Rodgers is getting old, there is a slim likelihood that there is ever a time where the Bears are consistently victorious over the Packers and the Hall of Fame quarterback. With head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace potentially being fired at the end of the season, the Bears are likely to begin a rebuild in the offseason. An impending rebuild mixed with the few years Rodgers has left in Green Bay could result in the Bears never getting a victory over the quarterback that has caused the franchise so much pain.

Furthermore, the 2021 season could already be Rodger’s last season with the Packers, given his unhappiness with the franchise earlier this summer. Many analysts believe that the quarterback could be playing his final season with the Packers and could be traded in the offseason. If Rodgers is traded to a different team by Green Bay, Chicago will go from facing him twice a season to potentially just one more time before he retires.

It is unfortunate that whether due to a rebuild by Chicago, or Rodgers being traded from the Packers, the Bears will never earn a satisfying victory. What makes a rivalry so special is that there are times where each opponent has a streak of dominance, with the end of that dominance serving as a symbolic moment. Chicago will never get that signature victory where Rodgers is symbolically defeated, ending his success over the team.

Even Brett Favre’s Dominance Over The Bears Came To End

Before Rodgers, Brett Favre was the Packers quarterback that dominated the Bears from the 1990s through the early 2000s. From 1992 to 2007, Favre compiled a 22-10 record against Chicago, including a 10-game winning streak from 1994 to 1998. From 1999 to 2003, Chicago was only victorious twice against the Packers and their legendary quarterback.

Despite Favre’s success against the Bears for an entire decade, the rivalry and dominance faded in 2004. From 2004 to 2007, the Bears compiled a 6-2 record against the Packers and their Hall of Fame quarterback. Favre’s reign coming to an over was symbolized in two games in 2005 and 2006. On Christmas Day 2005, Chicago defeated Green Bay 24-17 to clinch the NFC North Division, while in week one of the 2006 season, Chicago beat Green Bay 26-0. In those two games, Favre was intercepted six times by the Bears’ defense, while the 2006 game marked the first time the Packers were held scoreless with him as their quarterback.

Even after Favre departed from Green Bay following the 2007 season, he still had trouble defeating the Bears whenever he played them. He would come out of retirement in 2009 to play for the Minnesota Vikings and faced Chicago four more times before his career ended. Favre compiled a 1-3 record against the Bears during his time with the Vikings. His career came to an end on Monday Night against the Bears in 2010. Defensive end Corey Wooten sacked the Hall of Fame quarterback in the second quarter of a late-season Monday night game, resulting in a severe concussion for the quarterback. The Bears would win the game 40-14 and clinched the NFC North Division.

Unlike Favre, Rodgers will likely never have to face the hardship of losing to the Bears. Although Justin Fields could lead Chicago to future dominance over Green Bay, it is unlikely to happen with the Packers’ current quarterback being the starter. Whether Rodgers finishes his career with Green Bay or finishes elsewhere, given the impending overhaul Chicago faces, the franchise and fan base will never get a much-needed run of success over the quarterback.
