How much do Madden ratings matter? They shouldn’t at all, but because Madden is the only football video game out there, NFL players tend to take them pretty seriously. As do the fans. In regards to the Chicago Bears, there is plenty of outrage over what ratings certain team members received. Kyle Fuller an 85? Ridiculous. Charles Leno Jr. an 81? Way too high.

Truth be told every player on the roster probably feels annoyed at how low their rating is. However, there is only one who has every right to be absolutely furious. That is prized new addition Robert Quinn.

Let’s remind everybody. This is a guy who racked up 11.5 sacks in 2019. In just 14 games too. He was the highest-rating pass disruptor in the NFL according to advanced stats. This means he harassed quarterbacks the most in terms of pressure-per-snap. By every notable metric, he was a force all season long. Not according to Madden though who handed him an overall rating of 82.

Chicago Bears should remind Quinn of this constantly

Where it’s so baffling to see this rating play out is in their assessment of his pass rush skills. Saying he’s just an 80 on finesse moves when in reality is has one of the best dip and hand-chop rushes in the entire league is laughable. Not to mention a paltry 67 in block shedding. He’s not the best in the league at those things but he’s significantly better than those numbers indicate.

Quinn isn’t perfect. He has his flaws. Nobody is disputing that. The problem with this rating is it fails to point out what those actual flaws are. Not to mention overblowing them in the first place. He is better than an 82. Significantly better. If he stays healthy this season, he’s going to prove it.
