That Aaron Rodgers Update We All Waited For Has Arrived

-

The rumors have been constant for the past two years. Honestly, ever since the Green Bay Packers drafted Jordan Love in the 1st round in 2020, the clock started ticking. Everybody knew it was a matter of time before Aaron Rodgers was on his way out. His outstanding success that year and in 2021 delayed the process far longer than expected. However, things finally seemed to a point of no return after the Packers finished 8-9 this past season, missing the playoffs. Rodgers having his worst season in years certainly simplified things.

According to Adam Schefter, Green Bay is seriously contemplating a change at quarterback for the first time in 15 years. Rodgers turns 40 this year. His ability to carry the team has diminished compared to a few years ago. The roster is in transition, and it’s pretty clear their latest Super Bowl window has closed. Combine that with a significant dead money hit looming, it’s no surprise the Packers brass are looking for an exit strategy. They must find a team willing to take on that contract and pay the necessary compensation.

“An offseason trade of Aaron Rodgers remains an option for the Green Bay Packers for a variety of reasons, league sources told ESPN.

A scenario that once seemed unthinkable, a Rodgers trade could be driven by financial reasons, the state of the Packers franchise and ultimately the feelings of both the team and the star quarterback.

League sources are convinced the franchise prefers to move on from Rodgers, just as it once did with Brett Favre. Those sources also believe that Rodgers is well aware of the Packers’ feelings on the situation.”

The final chapter of Aaron Rodgers was incredibly fitting.

After spending years trying to distance himself from Brett Favre, the future Hall of Famer ended up having almost the exact same career. He shined brightest at the age of 27, winning the Super Bowl in 2010. Since then he has failed to win another despite putting up absurd numbers and establishing himself as the greatest quarterback of all time in the eyes of many. Then as the years progressed it became less about the team and more about him. How many individual accomplishments could he manage? Even the constant flirtation with retirement became a regular part of his off-seasons.

Nothing will ever compare to the last glimpse. Everybody remembers Favre’s final pass in a Packers uniform, throwing a backbreaking interception in a do-or-die game against the Giants in the NFC championship. Aaron Rodgers paid tribute with a similar backbreaking interception against the Lions in the 2022 season finale, costing Green Bay a playoff spot. It was so poetic and couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. The only thing that could make it better if he’s exiled to NFL Siberia by getting traded to the New York Jets just like Favre was in 2008.
