Super Bowl Champion Explains Overlooked Reason Trubisky Must Start

-

Tedy Bruschi is one of the most respected football personalities in the business. The former Pro Bowl linebacker played in five Super Bowls during his career and won three of them. Though he played defense, he also got a chance to play with and against some of the best quarterbacks in history including with Tom Brady and against Peyton Manning and Brett Favre among others. So he’s somebody whom might have a valid opinion on whether to start Mitch Trubisky.

Well people got a chance to hear it during a back-and-forth segment on ESPN First Take with Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman. It was Kellerman who led things off, stating clearly that despite the struggles of Mike Glennon it was inadvisable to start Trubisky. Why? The Bears’ history at quarterback, a position they’ve mismanaged for decades. They have to make absolutely sure they get things right with Trubisky, even at the cost of this season.

Smith countered that Glennon hasn’t delivered. He bought the Bears four weeks and that would have to be enough.

Tedy Bruschi then put everything in perspective from a players’ view

Remember that Bruschi is a defensive player. He knows how to look at a QB situation from that way and it’s true. Imagine what the Vikings, Ravens and Panthers are thinking right now. They’re probably begging the Bears to stay the course with Glennon after seeing what happening Tampa Bay and Green Bay. Eight turnovers in four weeks. Erratic accuracy and ball placement. No desire to throw down the field. It’s an easy style of play to defend.

There’s no way to tell if Trubisky will be good if he plays, but it’s easy to predict he’ll be harder to defend. He’s not only much more accurate than Glennon, he’s also much more athletic. He can make plays with his feet, running for first downs. That additional threat will force defenses to adjust how they play and operate.

The Bears should know it’s time for a change when the opponents are practically begging them to keep a player in.
