Stats Prove Khalil Mack Plays Best When The Game Is On The Line

-

In case people forgot. It’s hard to beat the Green Bay Packers. Even when the Chicago Bears have managed to do it, the games always have come down to the wire. Odds are if they’re going to pull the upset at Lambeau Field on Sunday night, they’ll need somebody to step up in the fourth quarter when the team absolutely has to have it. Enter Khalil Mack.

Thus far they haven’t found the people capable of doing that. Too often the Packers take over the game in the second half and push it out of reach. That narrative may be changing though. Mitch Trubisky already flashed some late-game prowess at times last year, but the real clutch man might be their newest kid on the block.

People have tried to explain exactly what the Bears are getting in the 27-year old pass rusher. Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis wanted to make it clear for everybody. Being a former champion himself, he wants to see how guys play when the game is on the line. So he did some digging into relevant numbers on Mack.

His findings were astounding.

The stats from 2017 back up this Khalil Mack revelation

The Oakland Raiders won four of their games last season by a touchdown or less. Mack had a sack in two of those games. He was like that the year before too. Oakland won an astounding eight games by a touchdown or less on their way to the playoffs that season. Mack had a 4th quarter sack against both Carolina and Baltimore.

He always comes to play and has that superstar mentality. He wants the pressure on his shoulder. Nobody would rather be the guy to strike the decisive blow when everything’s in the balance. The Bears haven’t had somebody like that in a long time. Not since Brian Urlacher retired five years ago.

The question becomes will this team give him a chance to showcase that skill in Green Bay? It would mean they have to hold a lead late in the game. Something that hasn’t happened in the past two years against the Packers.
