There is a fun line sports fans love to throw around. “Vegas knows.” In other words, when sports oddsmakers suddenly shift odds on something, it isn’t just on a whim. These people have goods reasons to do so. Is it so crazy to think they might have some strong connections to the right people regarding inside information? Maybe. At least that is what some are wondering in regards to the Russell Wilson situation.

Something weird happened on Wednesday afternoon. A number of prominent sports betting sites suddenly removed futures bets regarding where Wilson will play in 2021. It was isolated too as both Deshaun Watson and Sam Darnold, two other prominent trade candidates remained visible. This led to serious speculation that these sites might be getting fed information that something is getting ready to happen.

Are people reading too much into it? Yeah, probably.

Still, this has happened before. A similar incident occurred right before Carson Wentz was traded to the Indianapolis Colts last month. So perhaps there is some validity. Either way, there is an undercurrent of belief that if a Wilson trade happens, it’ll happen around the start of free agency this coming week. Mike Silver of NFL Network said as much. It’s his belief clarity will come on the situation one way or another around that time.

What does this have to do with the Chicago Bears? Maybe nothing. Maybe everything. It’s well-known at this point that they are on Wilson’s list of possible trade destinations. The other three teams don’t look like strong contenders. So if Seattle is really interested in moving on, the Bears seems like the odds-on favorite to land the seven-time Pro Bowler.

Russell Wilson is the next domino that figures to fall

It’s just nobody knows which direction it will be. Most still think he ends up staying in Seattle. However, some like Silver believe the divide between the quarterback and Seahawks brass is bigger than people realize. Enough to where it’s actually trending more towards a separation than a reconciliation. Obviously, things can change. The Bears though are heavily involved in this thing and seem more than ready to pay the hefty price it’ll take.

Russell Wilson isn’t just some quarterback. He is a superstar. The guy just threw 40 touchdowns in 2020 despite limited offseason preparation and getting sacked over 40 times again. Seattle finished 12-4 and won the division. Yet it’s clear he isn’t happy. The belief is he has philosophical differences with head coach Pete Carroll. Wilson wants a pass-first offense built around him. Carroll won’t allow it. Combined with the ongoing cheap approach to the offensive line? The frustrations have reached a boiling point.

Maybe Vegas has caught wind of how bad it actually is.

The truth is Bears fans are weary. They need a resolution one way or another. Multiple weeks of this will cause them to go insane. The best thing to do is stop focusing on Wilson. That will play out when it plays out. Chicago has other businesses to attend to. Working on an extension for Cairo Santos and Allen Robinson being big on the to-do list. They can’t let one player control their entire offseason.
