Smoke Getting Thicker On Chicago Bears Trade Down Front

-

GM Ryan Poles has said he has a good idea of what he can get with the 9th overall pick in the upcoming 2023 draft. He feels there are seven or eight blue-chip players in this class. The odds are still favorable that one of them will be there when the Chicago Bears go on the clock. However, shortly after Poles moved the team into that spot, rumors began circulating that the Bears may look to move down again. It appears Poles is dead set on accumulating as much extra draft capital as possible. This speaks to both his confidence that he can still find a good player further down the board and how much work this roster still needs.

It looked like those rumors were simmering for a while, but then Poles openly admitted he was considering the idea. If that weren’t enough, insider David Kaplan revealed on his YouTube channel that the smoke is thick down at the Arizona owners meetings that Chicago is 100% open for business. It sounds like if the Bears get anything close to an offer they like, they’ll be moving down again.

The Chicago Bears like believe they can still get a player they want.

Poles admitted during his latest presser that he feels the team must address their right tackle position in the draft. No current projections have any of the top tackles in this class going before their pick at #9. Philadelphia won’t take one at #10, either. The earliest it could happen is with Tennessee at #11, but they might be focused on finding a quarterback. The first team that seems like a favorable landing spot for one is the Jets at #13. With four quality options available, it’s not crazy to think Poles could secure one of them if he were to land somewhere in the mid-teens to early 20s.

It isn’t a bad plan. Smart GMs don’t just take players they want. They make sure to take those players at spots where they should be taken. The Chicago Bears got Braxton Jones after moving down multiple times in the 5th last year. Poles is confident in his ability to find good players after moving down. He holds to his philosophy that more picks only benefit an organization. With ten selections already this year, it seems he is intent on increasing that inventory.

I’d be happy if he traded down 6 slots max to 15 and get more mid round picks. We have so many holes to fill so he can draft players that fit the style he’s trying to create !!

I like how some people on here have nothing good to say when it comes to poles. He could nail 9 out of the 10 draft picks but people are always going to complain on how he missed on that 6th rounder. Draft classes can’t truly be evaluated until 3 or 4 years down the line.

A draft that’s deep in OT’s and Pass Rushers……..makes sense to move down. Quickest way to being competitive
