Rival NFC North Coach Confirms Trubisky Gives Him Nightmares

-

After the Bears hired Matt Nagy last January, the conversation immediately turned towards Mitch Trubisky and the relationship he and Nagy would have moving forward.

With the Bears spending high draft capital on Trubisky in 2017 it was crucial that they brought in a head coach who could maximize his talents and abilities.

Well, year one of Trubisky in Nagy’s system has come to a close and there was a noticeable jump from the beginning of the season to the end. Trubisky was much more confident, more accurate, made better decisions and the game noticeably seemed to slow down for him.

Now, everyone’s attention turns to year two and whether or not Trubisky can make the jump to become on the top QB’s in the game…

However, it appears that Trubisky may already be in that company in the mind of one of the other NFC North coaches.

Mike Zimmer Had High Praise For Trubisky

Mike Zimmer, the Head Coach of the Minnesota Vikings, was recently on Pro Football Talk Live at the Owner’s Meetings in Arizona.

He was asked about Aaron Rodgers and if he is a fan of his game. Zimmer discussed how he respects Rodgers, but yet hates him at the same time because of how tough of a matchup he is every time they play Green Bay.

Mike Florio of PFT went on to ask Zimmer if there were other quarterbacks that gave him that same sort of reaction and feeling. Zimmer had this to say,

“Well, when you play Brees and Brady…there’s so many that are so talented in this league. You know, Stafford’s a guy that can run and throw the ball all over the place.

And Trubisky now! He’s been running like crazy and that adds another dimension to what he does…Philip Rivers is another guy too.”

That’s some elite company to be grouped together with in a conversation about what quarterbacks give him matchup nightmares.

Drew Brees is a guaranteed Hall-of-Famer, Tom Brady is a guaranteed First Ballot Hall-of-Famer…Stafford’s one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league, but has been stuck in some terrible situations and offenses throughout the years. Plus, Philip Rivers is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in recent history.

Zimmer is not saying that Trubisky is on their level yet as far as prestige, accomplishments, etc. But the added element of Trubisky’s mobility (on top of what he can already do throwing the ball) is something that stood out enough for him to include him in a list of some of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

If Trubisky can build upon that mobility and strengthen his accuracy and rapport with his wideouts in year two of Nagy’s system, it could mean even worse nightmares for Zimmer, who has to play him twice a year now moving forward.

The national media can have all the opinions they want about Trubisky and his abilities. They’re not the ones who have to game plan for him when they take on the Chicago Bears.

Zimmer knows what that’s like and knows how much of a headache it can be to prepare for the young QB every time…that’s what’s important to pay attention to when evaluating #10.
