REPORT: Chicago Bears Get Good News Ahead Of Do-Or-Die Game

-

The Chicago Bears likely know their entire season comes down to what happens on Monday Night Football next week. Nothing about the game will be easy. Not when they’ll be on the road against a Pittsburgh Steelers team that has won three straight and boasts one of the best defenses in the NFL. If this team wants to avoid a near-insurmountable 3-6 record, they need all the help they can get.

That is why when head coach Matt Nagy met with the media on Thursday, he brought good news with him. Running back David Montgomery is returning to practice after missing the past four games with a knee injury. This means the team has a 21-day window to choose whether or not they’ll activate him off Injured Reserve. Knowing Montgomery’s history, it would not be a shock at all if he ended up playing at Heinz Field.

There is no question he’ll be needed.

Pittsburgh has of the best pass rushes in the NFL this season, led by superstar outside linebacker T.J. Watt. The Chicago Bears obviously don’t want to get put into a situation where Justin Fields has to throw the ball a lot. History has shown that can lead to disaster behind this offensive line. That is why running the ball will be so important. The problem is their backfield is banged up.

Montgomery was already on IR. Then Damien Williams left the game against San Francisco and didn’t return. Standout rookie Khalil Herbert soon followed with an injury of his own before getting back into the game later. If Montgomery can go on Monday night, it would be most welcome for this offense. Pittsburgh has been somewhat generous on the ground in recent weeks. If the Bears run it like they have all season, they might be able to keep the game competitive.
