REPORT: Chicago Bears Call On Preseason MVP To Help Ailing Offense

-

The Chicago Bears activated rookie tackle Teven Jenkins off Injured Reserve. That was the big news for Saturday going into a big game against Arizona. However, it wasn’t the only news. In addition, they also elevated two players from the practice squad to help assist the team. One was veteran pass rusher, Bruce Irvin. No big surprise. The other certainly was. Wide receiver Rodney Adams. The Bears’ preseason hero back in August.

It was an odyssey for the young pass catcher to reach this point. A former 5th round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, he opted to retire and take up acting a few years ago. While that was fun, he missed football. So he decided to return. After a brief stint back in Minnesota, he was released. Chicago signed him to a futures contract and brought him in for training camp. He ended up impressing and coupled that with some great highlights in the preseason. While he initially cracked the roster, he was soon waived.

The team stashed him on the practice squad ever since.

It is somewhat surprising that things ended up this way. Last week the Bears opted to give Isaiah Coulter a look against Detroit. The young receiver they picked up from Houston. Now, rather than elevating their own 6th round pick Dazz Newsome, they chose to go with Adams instead. Perhaps they feel his veteran experience is worth a bit more at this point. The team will be without both Allen Robinson and Marquise Goodwin in this game.

Adams had 161 yards on 10 catches including a touchdown in the preseason. He flashed promising ability thanks to his speed and quickness. The problem he ran into was a concerning case of drops. Too often he seemed to struggle to hang onto the ball. Now the Chicago Bears don’t have much choice. Their options are limited. Andy Dalton needs all the help he can get against one of the best pass defenses in the league.
